DescriptionStudies have shown that the rates of joint replacement surgeries has increased steadily over the past decade. In Australia alone, there are about 110,000 joint replacements performed every year. This number is expected to rise with the aging population and increasing rates of obesity. Furthermore, COVID-related cancellations and hospital restrictions will likely impact the provision of joint replacements for years to come. Although joint replacement surgery is an effective treatment for end-stage osteoarthritis, the volume of joint replacement surgeries being places a huge burden on the surgical workforce and the healthcare system.
