The Bookshelf

    Press/Media: Review

    Description

Three versions of home and belonging - and not belonging - on this week's Bookshelf, including siblings exiled on an American street in Ann Patchett's The Dutch House (Bloomsbury), a man and his nephew adrift together in Nice tracking secrets within their family in Emma Donoghue's Akin (Picador), and a complex story of black identity and women's lives in England in Bernardine Evaristo's Girl, Woman, Other (Hamish Hamilton). Kate and Cassie are joined by academic and autoethnographer Denise Chapman from Monash University and writer Amanda O'Callaghan whose collection of short stories is This Taste for Silence (UQP).
