Supplement could help protect babies' brains

Press/Media: Article/Feature

Description

MELATONIN is used to treat sleep disorders and jet lag, but Australian researchers believe that it may also protect the brains of babies who stop growing in the womb.

Each year about 28,000 Australian babies are born underweight, typically when the placenta can no longer supply them with enough nutrients and oxygen. Foetal growth restriction is a leading cause of stillbirth and is responsible for at least 100 cases of cerebral palsy every year.
