Sharing communities — bringing people closer?

Press/Media: Profile/Interview

Description

A few weeks ago on Life Matters we spoke about the sharing economy and people using services like Uber and Mad Paws.

This time round, we're furthering the conversation to talk about sharing communities — where various goods and services are shared through platforms started on a grassroots level, with more control by those taking part.

Darren Sharp is Director of Social Surplus, a strategy consultancy for the sharing economy and co-author of Sharing Cities: Activating the Urban Commons, which will soon be launched in Sydney.

Julie Miller Markoff is co-founder of BHive in Bendigo, Australia's first platform co-operative. It allows locals to build, operate and own the sharing economy in areas ranging from transport to food.

We also hear from Doug Hartmann, Vice President of the Brunswick Tool Library in Melbourne's inner north.
