Title Punters dropping record bundles Degree of recognition National Media name/outlet Courier Mail Media type Print Duration/Length/Size 258 words Country/Territory Australia Date 9/10/17 Description QUEENSLANDERS are gambling away record amounts of money, splashing almost $360 million on betting in July.
The spend is the highest since records began in 2004.
And poker machines accounted for more than $217 million of August's gambling tally, the most ever put through the state's gaming machines in a single month.
The total for all recorded gambling in July, which includes poker machines, lotto, Keno, wagering and casino spending, was more than $483,000 gambled away every hour in the state - more than $11.5 million a day.
Monash University gambling researcher Charles Livingstone said the increased spend was no accident.
"The industry works very hard to maximise revenue and make the machines more attractive and addictive," he said.Producer/Author Vanessa Marsh URL https://readnow.isentia.com/reader.aspx?a=856507890&i=1cff8&d=20171130&h=bff7cd78e3147a61f20551456cde99fa Persons Charles Livingstone
