Introducing LGBTIQ inclusive education during teacher education

Press/Media: Article/Feature

Description

In this article in Education Today Monash University researchers Associate Professor Louise Jenkins, Associate Professor Megan Adams and Blake Cutler discuss their work about pre-service teachers' feelings of comfort about working with LGBTIQ students and how these are influenced by their emotional experience.  The research participants were all studying a Master of Teaching at an Australian University. A major recommendation was the addition of more extensive LGBTIQ content in Initial Teacher Education as a way to support PSTs to feel more comfrotable when they begin teaching diverse student cohorts, including those who are LGBTIQ.
