DescriptionInterview with Dr Charles Livingstone, Gambling Expert, School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University. Buck explains 'synthetic lottery' is when a person used his money to take a punt on a Lottoland lottery. He says the NSW Government has announced a clampdown on the online betting service. He notes that Deputy Premier John Barilaro expresses concerns to customers buying tickets in a synthetic lottery, believing they're entering a lottery, when in fact they are betting on the outcome of that lottery. Livingstone says various governments are concerned that synthetic lottery is robbing them of revenue from taxes and providing income to newsagents and other conventional lottery ticket places. He points out they are depriving state governments substantial revenues. He says the Commonwealth Government is trying to introduce new consumer protection package against the online bookies.
