Food Security in Australia during COVID-19

Press/Media: Expert Comment

Description

Commentary provided on food security in Australia during the current COVID-19 pandemic. The topic I was addressing in particular was based on the views of farmers in the Liverpool plains, who produce much of Australia's food and food exports. I reported on the farmer's view that Australia does not have 'a history of hunger', whereas many newer migrants do. Those who have experienced food and water shortages, and that of other supplies tend to react quickly if they fear they will need to go without. Thus, the tendance to panic and hoard food and other goods. Those who  have not had such experiences are less likely to do so but may eventually be influenced a roll-on effect when seen the panic buying.
