Cup deaths a tragedy that racing can't spin

    With the deaths of two horses in the 2014 Melbourne Cup, this article raises questions about the treatment of thoroughbread racehorses and the 'wastage' in the industry. Being such an important and lucrative event on the sporting calendar, the article argues that the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival cannot afford these much publicised deaths as they highlight the hidden cost of the racing industry.
