Closer to a world free from MS

20th August 2021

MS Society SA & NT was pleased to contribute over $1.67 million to MS research in the 2020-21 financial year.

There is currently no known cause or cure for multiple sclerosis, and while research has taken many strides in the past few decades to develop treatments for symptoms and disease progression, there is still more that needs to be done.

This will help MS Australia to fund essential Australian studies researching improved treatments, a cause and a cure for MS.

One of the 60 research projects currently being funded by MS Australia and conducted by Dr Mastura Monif at Monash University is examining the role of a specific immune cell called the monocyte in MS relapses which are found in large numbers within the injured areas of the brain and spinal cord in MS. The ultimate aim of this work is to develop therapies that could potentially halt MS relapses.
