Cyber crime experts are trying to get to the bottom of an elaborate kidnapping scam targeting Chinese and Taiwanese students in Australia.

The criminals threaten the students with deportation, steal their identity and trick them into creating their own fake kidnapping scenarios.

The Australian Federal Police says two million dollars have already been stolen from the students' and their families after they pay the fake ransoms.
