Description
The aim of the workshop is to help develop a knowledge base and skills of school counsellors to support student wellbeing through social emotional learning and positive behaviour management. The content will be delivered in two sections:1.Supporting student’s social and emotional learning
•Understanding emotional development:
i.Attachment; Temperament and Personality
ii.Emotional awareness, literacy and emotional regulation
•Understanding social development:
i.Social Cognition and Moral Development
ii.Social Learning Theories
•Counselling approaches that support social and emotional learning:
i.phenomenological inquiry through person-centred counselling;
ii.goal setting using solution focused brief therapy techniques
2.Managing behavioural issues presented by young people adjusting to change. Topics will cover:
•Developing, implementing and monitoring the effectiveness of student management plans;
•Promoting positive behaviour using the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) model: key principles and how to apply them;
•Working collaboratively with student, teachers and parents;
•Building interpersonal relationships with other school personnel: teachers, leaders and admin support.
