Description

Safer Together direction and principles emphasise the involvement of communities in decision-making and recognises that different approaches are required to foster a sense of shared responsibility and to build community resilience in the context of bushfire management and risk. This includes investing in stronger relationships with communities in high bushfire risk areas, stronger partnerships with tailored approaches that work for our different communities.
This proposal also draws on the Victorian Government’s Framework for place-based approaches, which supports approaches where government enables community to act in a place where locals are already mobilising change and where government partners with community to deliver on priority local outcomes. The Community First Projects under Safer Together (including Community Based Bushfire Management) are directly referenced as place-focussed approaches within this whole of government framework. This project is extending on these place-focussed approaches to pursue a place-based approach, recognising that different ways of working with communities are appropriate for different circumstances.
