The Movers is a 60-minute documentary by Giulia Marchetti and Francesco Di Trapani, exploring the stories of migration to Australia of six young Italians. Some of them have decided to settle in Australia while others have returned to Italy in order either to stay or to leave again soon.

Followed by a roundtable with: Professor Loretta Baldassar, Giulia Marchetti, Francesco Di Trapani, On. Marco Fedi and Dr Angela Viora



Professor Loretta Baldassar, born in Perth of Veneto descent, is a leading expert in Italian migration and the experience of second-generation Italo-Australians. Baldassar is Professor of Anthropology and Sociology at the University of Western Australia and Vice Chancellor Professorial Research Fellow in the School of Arts and Humanities at Edith Cowan University in Melbourne.

Giulia Marchetti is an Italian PhD candidate in Anthropology and Sociology at the University of Western Australia, and Research Associate at Deakin University (Youth Mobilities, Aspirations & Pathways).

Francesco Di Trapani is an Italian filmmaker and film director based in Rome working on documentaries and Italian TV programs, such as Report Rai3 and Geo Raitre.

On. Marco Fedi is Chief Executive Officer at CO.AS.IT. Italian Assistance Association Melbourne. From 2006 to 2018 he served as an MP in the Italian House of Representatives (Camera dei Deputati) for the constituency including Australia.

Dr Angela Viora is an Italian performance artist and scholar based in Naarm/Melbourne since 2014. Obsessed with the body-space relationship, she researches on migration, mobility, and belonging. Angela has presented her work across Europe, Asia, and Australia. She lectures in European Languages (Italian Studies) at Monash University.
