This Special Issue of Procedia – Social and Behavioural Sciences is devoted to the papers presented at The International Conference on Current Trends in ELT: Putting the Learner in the Spotlight (www.urmia.ac.ir/elt2013) which was held at Urmia University, Iran, between 20 and 22 May 2013. The Conference was organized by the English Language Department of Urmia University and attracted 1400+ proposals during 35 days of abstract submission, of which about 400 were scheduled for presentation (oral and poster) during three days of the Conference. The Conference was attended by more than 700 participants and world class scholars including Professor Rod Ellis, Professor Jack C Richards, Professor Michael Byram, Professor Behrooz Azabdaftari, Professor John Sivell, Professor Bonny Norton, Professor Farzad Sharifian, and Dr Anne Swan who all presented plenary speeches at the Conference. A small collection of papers presented at the Conference (mainly by the plenary speakers) were published in October 2013 Issue of Iranian Journal of Language Teaching Research (www.urmia.ac.ir/ijltr) and the other papers were scheduled for publication in Procedia – Social and Behavioural Sciences (SBSP).
