P. Ramlee, whose real name was Teuku Zakaria bin Teuku Nyak Puteh, was a renowned Malayan actor, filmmaker, musician, comedian and composer who gained fame in modern-day Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei. He is widely regarded as a prominent icon of Malay entertainment.

P. Ramlee started his journey in 1948 under Malay Film Productions in Singapore. He reached the peak of his career in Singapore during the 1950s and early 1960s but saw a decline in the late 1960s when he moved to Kuala Lumpur to work for Merdeka Film Productions. Despite acclaim in Singapore, Ramlee faced criticism in Malaysia during his lifetime. Only after his death did his work gain retrospective recognition in the country.

P. Ramlee's contributions to the Malay entertainment industry are nothing short of legendary, with many of his works now considered masterpieces and cultural touchstones. His films continue to captivate audiences and remain evergreen classics to this day, such as Pendekar Bujang Lapok, Hang Tuah, Madu Tiga, Antara Dua Darjat, Ibu Mertua-Ku, Anak-ku Sazali, Tiga Abdul, Sergeant Hassan, Seniman Bujang Lapok, Laksamana Do Re Mi, Nujum Pa' Blalang, Ali Baba Bujang Lapok, and Ahmad Albab. His songs, such as Getaran Jiwa, Jeritan Batinku, Di Mana Kan Ku Cari Ganti, Aci Aci Buka Pintu, Bila Larut Malam, Dendang Perantau, Suara Takbir, Malam Bulan Dipagar Bintang, Tunggu Sekejap, Berkorban Apa Saja, and Engkau Laksana Bulan, have stood the test of time and remain popular across generations.

In 2023, P. Ramlee’s cinematic legacy lives on as we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the passing of one of Malaysia's most beloved and influential artists.
