Description

The 2019 Melbourne Taranta Festival aims at celebrating Italian music and dance with a particular focus on contemporary folk music. The focus of the first edition of the festival is the promotion of the music and culture of the Puglia region, vital centre of the contemporary folk revival of the Pizzica Pizzica music and dance.

The festival’s objective is to diffuse Italian and Mediterranean culture and to create a platform for Italian artists in Australia to collaborate with other artists from diverse communities, nationally and internationally.

Conferences, workshops and artistic collaborations will stimulate a trans-cultural dialogue, create a better understanding of Italian contemporary culture and establish new connections with other local migrant communities
