Description

In collaboration with Dr Leah Gerber and Dr Lintao Qi (Translation and Interpreting Studies) and Dr Mridula Nath Chakraborty (Monash Intercultural Lab)

This workshop forms part of research undertaken as part of the Monash University research project Showcasing Australian Literature in China Through Translation, funded by the Australia China Council. Together with award-winning Australian writer Alexis Wright (Carpentaria, Plains of Promise, The Swan Book, Tracker) and Professor Li Yao, renowned translator of Australian literature into Chinese, we aim to discuss aspects related to the translation and dissemination of Australian literature overseas, including orality and storytelling, polyphonic texts/narratives, the ‘journey of the book’ through translation, the support of publishers and challenges to mainstream perceptions or expectations of Australian and Indigenous literature for both Australian readers and /or readers throughout the world.
