Description
Obesity is linked to conditions such as high blood lipids, cholesterol, and liver lipid accumulation, leading to metabolic-associated fatty liver disease, previously known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Due to concerns about the side effects of commercial medications, there is a need for alternative treatments. Malaysians have traditionally consumed Alternanthera sessilis, an edible herb, to lower hypertension, blood lipids, and cholesterol, but scientific evidence is lacking. Previous research showed that A. sessilis has potent antioxidants, particularly flavonoids. The liver plays a crucial role in lipid metabolism, and A. sessilis extracts were found to inhibit lipid accumulation and regulate lipid-related genes in human liver cells. This study aims to further optimise the extraction of bioflavonoids from A. sessilis and investigate their impact on lipid metabolism using cell-based lipidomic analysis. The findings will aid in developing therapeutic strategies for hyperlipidemic conditions, paving the way for future animal and human intervention studies.Period | 9 Jan 2024 |
