Description
FDR and Social Justice: A Dual Focus in Clinical Legal Education
In a university law clinic, students are taught what lawyers do in practice, including advising clients about DR options. Social justice has always played an important role in clinical legal education (CLE). Students acquire the skills and strategies for client-centred lawyering, process choice and procedural justice. LAFDR (lawyer-assisted family dispute resolution) clinic within Monash University Clinical Program enables students to expand their knowledge of FDR principles and practices, while focusing on social justice teaching. Students are given the opportunity to develop communication, research and practical legal skills to become successful family lawyers who provide clients with accessible legal service.
