Moodle Simulation Exercise: Scenario-Based Workflow Testing for Individual Assignments

Activity: Participating in or organising an event typesContribution to workshop, seminar, course

Description

Drawing from my experience in Accenture in designing and testing system workflows, I designed a simulation exercise to train School of Business staff members to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to manage online assessment administration and marking procedures. The hands-on activities simulated ‘real’ scenarios of assignment submission and online marking on Moodle platform. This hands-on experience is an important milestone to verify end-to-end workflow to ensure that Chief Examiner (CE) and tutors are ready for online submission and marking this semester. The interactive hands-on session is designed with a ‘community of practice’ spirit in mind, to achieve the following objectives:

1. To simulate the workflow processes for CE to mitigate potential issues/risks in assignment submission and marking.

2. To ascertain student’s view and action steps to successfully submit an assignment via turn-it-in and view their grades after the marking process is completed.

3. To train CE and tutors in marking individual assignments using online rubric.
This session is open to colleagues who had participated in the basic Moodle training offered by Educational Excellence team and wish to test out the setup and workflow for actual practice. The role-play will involve ‘students’ (by professional staff), Chief Examiner and tutor(s). If preferred, participants can bring sample assignments (in PDF soft copies) and any attachments for submission to simulate the submission and marking as ‘real’ as possible.
