Description
The IASPM-SEA & IAPMS Joint Conference 2024 explored innovative perspectives on sonic entanglements in Southeast Asia, aiming to facilitate interdisciplinary discussions on how music shapes our relationship with the world. As part of this event, I participated in a laboratory session focused on the project "Social Media, Controversy and Dissent in Southeast Asian Popular Music", which examines the interplay between these elements in the music scenes of Malaysia, the Philippines, and Myanmar.
My primary contribution to this project is leading the data scraping and mining efforts. This role involves collecting and analyzing relevant social media data, applying advanced data mining techniques to extract meaningful insights, and collaborating with other researchers to interpret our findings within the context of Southeast Asian popular music. This work is crucial for understanding the broader social dynamics and controversies surrounding popular music in the region, and will contribute to academic publications and engagement activities designed to reach both scholarly and general audiences interested in Southeast Asia's vibrant music scenes.
