Description

Change is inevitable. The ongoing discussions on Industrial Revolution 4.0 and its impacts on organizations requires new ways of thinking and working. It is well said by Peter Drucker that “The greatest danger in times of turbulence is not the turbulence ― It is to act with yesterday’s logic”. Today, the advancement of technology has brought businesses forward to stay connected and closer with customers almost instantly. The exponential changes entail the reinvention of work, workplace, work environment and its integrated system.

Reinventing business strategy through innovation has been carried out by many companies but few have succeeded to become the market leaders. According to FastCompany (2019), the two most innovative companies in the world come from Asia: Meituan-Dianping in China, and Grab in South-East Asia. The former is based in Beijing while the latter is based in Singapore. Both companies use the online platforms to provide services to customers, which subsequently improve customers’ lives and wellbeing.

Looking forward, the fundamental of innovation in both companies as the exemplars lies in the organizational development with strategic interventions that can bring full potential benefits to customers, employees, community, society, shareholders, and the natural environment. For this reason, four main questions will be discussed in our HR forum 2019: Are we ready for the disruptions? What do we need to face the disruptions? With all the disruptions, how do we create value? Is the value sustainable? A personal communication with John Benson, Professor of HRM, Head, School of Business on the 7th of March 2019 said that “The speed of change is incredible. It is a cyclical process to connect from the readiness, preparation, creating value, and sustained value, which can be translated into the HR Funnel strategy”.
