Description
Generative AI in Econometrics: Experiments with the Advanced Data Analysis ModelTransformED is an annual event by Monash University Malaysia's Education Excellence Unit that showcases excellence in teaching and learning, featuring presentations from educators and industry experts on innovations in higher education.
I presented "Generative AI in Econometrics: Experiments with the Advanced Data Analysis Model," which examines the use of ChatGPT's GPT-4 in econometrics education and research. My presentation focused on the practical applications of large language models (LLMs) and outlined their capabilities and limitations.
The results show that GPT-4 is highly effective in arithmetic calculations, mathematical proofs, and reasoning. It excels at providing detailed explanations and step-by-step processes for complex analyses. However, GPT-4 requires precise instructions to accurately create charts and diagrams and often needs additional prompts for in-depth data analysis. A major challenge is that GPT-4's data analysis can suffer from time-outs and operational errors, which can disrupt extensive data handling.
The future plans for integrating generative AI in education include making advanced AI tools accessible and focusing on human-centred, project-based assessments. This approach aims to align AI use with practical educational outcomes, creating assessments that test knowledge and encourage the application of AI in solving complex issues. These efforts aim to make educational environments more interactive, responsive, and aligned with future technology.
