Description

Excerpts of Dr. Mani's evidence-based recommendations made in response to the ‘Franchising Code of Conduct: Exposure Draft”, Dec 2020 are noted below.

“I want to reiterate the need to develop a public register of franchise disclosure documents that is available to prospective franchisees… A public register of franchise disclosure documents and the Key-Facts-Sheet will help prospective franchisees conduct preliminary due diligence on more than one franchise system before engaging with the franchisor." “Setting a public register will help prospective franchisees conduct preliminary due diligence of more than one franchise system. This also helps franchisors, as a transparent system will help weed out non-compliant franchisors.”

Dr. Mani emphasized the need to include information on ongoing payments, the number of franchise-owned outlets, and the franchisor bankruptcy among others in the Key Facts Sheet.
