Donation after egg freezing: Why past treatment costs do not constitute reasonable expenses

Activity: External Academic Engagement › Submissions to industry or govt committees, commissions and inquiries

Description

n this brief, we address whether patients who later donate surplus frozen eggs may be repaid the costs of their prior egg freezing treatment. There have been suggestions that such payments could be framed as reimbursement of reasonable expenses arising from the donation process. We argue that treating egg freezing costs as recoverable following donation is inconsistent with Australia’s legal framework and ethical standards governing gamete donation.
