Convenor: Postgraduate Workshop - On Audiences, Sites and Situations: Thinking about Contemporary Art and its Publics in Local and Global Contexts

Activity: Community Talks, Presentations, Exhibitions and EventsPublic outreach

Description

In addition to the Making Asian Art Public/s public conversation, I co-convened a postgraduate workshop at Monash University with Professor Tara McDowell, and guest speakers Mira A, Merv Espina, Mark Teh, Tintin Wulia and Suzann Victor. The workshop gathered postgraduate students from Monash University, RMIT, University of Melbourne, and University of Sydney, interested in exploring the notion of audiences in relation to their research topics, and the intersection of their research with contemporary Asia.

This workshop was intended as an opportunity to think critically about audiences for art from diverse subject positions and practices – including from the viewpoints and work of artists, curators, and art historians – as well as to think through the relationship between art and audiences as they intersect with specific sites and situations including cultural contexts.
