Description

Invited Day One keynote lecture-recital presentation.

Classical music has an important role to play in increasing awareness and communication surrounding the global challenges of our time: the climate crisis, social and cultural justice, and geopolitical peace. At the same time, these global challenges are strongly influencing the evolution of art music, shaping new directions in creative practice, influencing curatorial models, and informing conceptual frameworks for musicians in all contexts. What does this mean for musicians at ANAM in 2025?
Through performance and discussion, this presentation explores ways to tune in to the relationships between individual musical practice and global challenges. Offering approaches to engaging with the climate crisis through classical music, it will include performances of short works developed within The Sound Collectors Lab that reveal different stories of human impacts on bodies of water in our region. This will be followed by two provocations, asking how will you tune in in 2025?
