Poster Presentation - Microbiological Quality of Green Mussels (Perna viridis) in Cavite and Pangasinan, Philippines
The quality of green mussels is a response to their growing area due to the physiological nature of bivalves as filter-feeders[CBV1] . Microbiological quality indicators: APC, Total Coliform, Fecal Coliform, and E. coli were determined in green mussels and seawater. The physico-chemical parameters of seawater measured: pH, temperature, NaCl, Nitrogen, and Phosphorus. Results were compared to set standards of quality for green mussels and seawater based on PNS/BAFS 89:2021, Philippine National Shellfish Sanitation Manual, and DENR Water Quality Guidelines AO No. 2016-08. All samples collected from Pangasinan were all compliant to the standard while some municipalities in Cavite exceeded reference values. Most microbiological and physico-chemical parameters could predict microbiological responses in green mussel as explained in its filter-feeding nature.
