A cross-cultural exploration of how ITE providers prepare final-year preservice teachers for their transition to employment?

Activity: External Academic Engagement › External research and teaching

Description

Research has shown that on graduating preservice teachers’ often feel underprepared for the transition into the workforce (Beauchamp & Thomas, 2009; Mayer & White, 2021). From the limited published research available we infer that support for aspects such as employment readiness, global mobility, and recruitment processes, may be underemphasised in ITE programs. Given that employability is increasingly understood as a contextually and culturally shaped construct (Boden & Nedeva, 2010), there is a need to consider how ITE programs are preparing graduates for this process.
This research addresses that need by engaging in cross-cultural story-sharing exchanges that explore how ITE providers in different global contexts support graduating teachers in navigating the transition to employment.
